2011 Academic Convocation - September 16

On Friday, September 16, 2011, the Texas A&M community came together for its annual Academic Convocation, celebrating the beginning of a new academic year and welcoming 122 new faculty members and  12,917 new students.  Through the ceremony of Academic Convocation we, the members of the university community, reaffirm our commitment to academic excellence, fulfilling our flagship mission, and celebrating our common purpose - Education First.

The centerpiece of this year's Convocation was President R. Bowen Loftin's address, Vision 2020: Creating a Culture of Excellence: Reaffirmation and Way Forward.

As a prelude to Academic Convocation, Dr. E. Gordon Gee, president of The Ohio State University, presented a Presidential Lecture on the Future of Higher Education on Thursday evening, September 15.  His lecture, titled Irreversible Forward Momentum: An Agenda for Higher Education, and President Loftin’s Convocation address each have contributed to this fall’s ongoing Commitment to Excellence Dialogue Series that will accelerate our pursuit of Vision 2020.  During the dialogue series, we will have conversations about our shared responsibilities and our shared accountability.

We look forward to everyone engaging in these important conversations!
